This recording of Youngok Shin is really excellent, both for her tone and technique, and for the selection of music on it. There are many beautiful songs you don't normally find at all, let alone together on one CD. Some of my favorites are La promessa, Oh! quand je dors, Chanson triste, and Zdes' Khorosho. I originally purchased the CD to help me learn some repertoire, and found additional repertoire ideas on the disc. Shin gives a beautiful performance that is exactly right for this music; it isn't overdone at all. I'm really tired of opera singers turning art songs into some dramatic opera scene, or making them so "big" that we can't even hear the poetry anymore. Please remember that art songs are a partnership between singer and pianist; both play nearly equal roles. Lovely job, Ms. Shin.

Since I heard her singing first 12 years or so ago, I have always been a most loyal fan of hers. She just has the most pure and beautiful, if not the most powerful, voice. And the way she looks when singing is genuinely beautiful as well. Definitely a must-have for any classical music fan who can value the real quality rather than the commerically blown-up success! One more tip: The CDs and DVDs by Korean artists such as Shin are more readily available at a website called HanBooks.com. Fast delivery and lower price.

I don't think the music or songs from this CD are composed for night.
However, I found the songs from this CD are so relaxing and beautiful.
It was very suitable music to listen to in the evening in my experience.
Shin doesn't have dramatic quality in her voice and her voice volume can be small. However, it doesn't prevent us from enjoying her beautiful singing because simply she has one of the most beautiful voice in the world.
I found much more enjoyable or relaxing than any other CDs(Bartoli or Sumi Jo, battle,...even Bonney).
