The box works much better than some of the other reviewers have claimed. For one, it has vent holes on both the top and bottom; the other reviewers might have had an older model. It didn't seem hot to me at all. I live in an area with very limited over-the-air reception, and the box grabbed all the digital signals just fine. It is trivial to set up, and the manual seemed quite clear.
Access DTV Converter Box January 7, 2009 DDuck (Churchville, PA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DTV converter box works better & is more user friendly than the Magnavox DTV Box I borrowed earlier. I receive about 35 DTV stations under very bad conditions - unheated location & poor quality 'rabbit ears' antenna. Both boxes seemed to suffer from low antenna strength, because many channels had momentary stoppages (still & pixelated frames). When purchased with the $40 coupon, it is a good buy.
You get what you pay for December 17, 2008 Eljay (Vermont, USA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Being short on cash, I went for the cheapest deal I could find and I admit that I didn't spend a lot of time researching. When I received this unit, I was surprised that it was as tiny and flimsy as it is. The picture makes it look bigger and sturdier. The remote didn't work and try as I might to get it hooked up and working, I only got a screen full of "snow." The directions said something about the green or red light that was supposed to do something, but I was not able to get anything to work the way it was supposed to and was not able to reach any tech support. I gave up, unplugged everything and haven't bothered to go back to it. I am now wishing I had spent the extra and went to the local Radio Shack.
Excellent Value - Works Great - 1080U Would Be Even Better December 16, 2008 Gordon Jackson (NC) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Performs as expected. Excellent picture and sound quality. No problems as reported by others. I needed to get a better antenna. Rabbit ears did not cut it. Should have bought the 1080U model. Then I would not have to juggle TV remote and converter remote. The U model is identical but has the Universal remote control included. Now I need to go buy a universal remote control. Great product for the money!
Provides DVD quality picture December 16, 2008 Converter convert (Raleigh, NC) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
At first the converter did not get many stations and I saw some frozen images - but I noticed the message that the signal was weak. I called Access HD to complain. It turns out the FCC's own data shows at least 30% of TV owners will need a new antenna to get a good picture. Access HD identified the correct antenna using a zip code look-up plus a verification using Google Earth (look at surrounding trees and buildings). It was awesome. Got the new antenna and I get more stations than I have ever received before - with DVD quality picture. I am sure most of the complaints you hear about converters of all brands are not converter problems at all, but antenna problems! The before and after performance with a good antenna is amazing.
