Customer Reviews An iconoclast spews forth July 31, 2008 Shaun Mason (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wil Forbis lets his iconoclast flag fly with Acid Logic, a funny and near-funny collection of hilarious funny rants about all sorts of things, some really great interviews (the Great Kat interview, despite all your inclinations otherwise, is not fake), and Wil's bizarre upside-down-world fiction. He is very much like Will Self in his fictitious view of how the world might be if things were the opposite of what they are, which makes him a true iconoclast in that sense. This is a great book for the bathroom because the pieces are broken up into easily pinched off sections that take about as long to read as it does to see a man about a dog. Forbis may not be for everyone, but nothing good ever is. He's a truly original talent and Acid Logic is a great cross-section of an intellectually curious mind.
A Cavalcade of Forbis' Writings June 10, 2008 John Skotnik (Lake Tahoe, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While this book may be the author's first print title, he is no stranger to writing. Wil's blog, My So-called [...], has archives going back to September 2000. Anyone on the fence about buying the book should feel free to peruse his blog: [...] Now, onto the contents! There are 5 sections to the book (not counting the Foreward by John Saleeby and Preface by the author): 1. Miscellaneous Writing __ a. Three's a Crowd! __ b. Interview with King Kong __ c. Dean Koontz can BLOW ME!!! __ d. Don't Tell Us, We'll Tell You! __ e. Nothing but a G-rated Thang __ f. Clinton's Punishment--Examining Alternate Proposals __ g. Americana Splendor __ h. Cabin Fever and the Next Wave of Kentucky Fried Horror! __ i. The Rebirth of Jason Becker __ j. Let's Hear It For THog-Zar 2. Interesting Motherf*ckers (Reviewer's note: Amazon doesn't allow for profanity in reviews, however the book does) __ a. Roz Chast __ b. David Allan Coe __ c. Doris Wishman __ d. Sho Kosugi __ e. Penelope Spheeris __ f. Saddam Hussein __ g. Antonio Fargas __ h. Toshiro Mifune __ i. Nina Hagen __ j. Steve Ditko __ k. Thelonius Monk __ l. Joan and John Cusack __ m. GG Allin 3. Reviews __ a. Revenge of the Nerds __ b. Sid and Nancy __ c. Dead Presidents __ d. Office Space __ e. Bargain Bin Culture __ f. Mr. Bungle--self-titled 4. Interviews __ a. Rikki Rockett __ b. The Great Kat __ c. Stuart Gordon __ d. Curtis Armstrong __ e. Gerald V Casale of Devo 5. Fiction __ a. The Parish Hill Slasher/Pruner __ b. The Suckiest Superhero In The World Of these, my favorite is definitely the last section, Fiction. Inside this section you will find two stories, The Parish Hill Slasher/Pruner and The Suckiest Superhero In The World. The former tells the story of someone who has been doing what he loves (killing people) for some time and then gets an offer of monetary compensation to continue doing so, in a more targeted area. The latter tells the story of Plasma-Man, a "hero" not unlike the one Will Smith plays (at least in the beginning) in the upcoming film Hancock, or so the trailers indicate.
