I bought this device, based on previous generally positive reviews, to determine the humidity around a grand piano. The very small size of the device allows it to be placed inside the piano next the the case wall without being visible, even with the piano lid up. I have no other hygrometer to compare and so do not know how accurate the unit is. However, it does give me a good indication of how much the humidity fluctuates from time to time.
Works! December 1, 2008 Lisa M. (New York)
After reading the reviews, I ordered it. Received it and placed it in a calibrating bag 75% that I also purchased. It sat in the bag for 48 hours and read 74%. The hygrometer stated accurate to +/- 1%, so there you have it. It works. Must have device for accurate humidity readings. Well worth it!
Mine was off by +4% November 11, 2008 Anthony Yeung (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I must be the unlucky one. I was convinced that this hygrometer would be accurate as all the reviews say. Unfortunately I must have got the few that passed QA. I purchased the One Step EZ Hygrometer Calibrating Kit from a local cigar store and after following the directions to the T, my hygrometer was reading +4%. I thought it had to do w/ how the room temperature was affecting the reading. So I conducting two other tests where the room temp was at 80 degrees and one at 65 degrees. Still it read 79% humidity for both tests when the Calibration kit says it should be reading 75%. Long story short which every hygrometer you purchase I would recommend purchasing a calibration kit and just put a sticky note on your hygrometer w/ the +/- of how much it's off to remind you of the true reading. hth, ant

This is a pretty accurate device, it updates quickly and seems to be pretty accurate. There is no easy adjustment, but it is small and seems to be of good quality.
Finally a low cost and accurate humidity monitor! August 8, 2008 phOtOcat (Clemson, SC, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I needed to monitor the humidity in my darkroom for making platinum/palladium as well as other "alternative" process prints in which the humidity level could seriously influence the outcome. I bought one meter after another, all 5 of them gave different readings, some wildly so. Not inexpensive either. Someone recommended the Caliber III and for under $20 it was a great find: accurate, fast response time, small and unobtrusive. Apparently cigar lovers knew about it way before photographers.
