I too had the problem with the clear plastic part of the lid breaking but after only 2 months. I called them and they said I could order the part for $21 and $5 shipping. What a joke. The pot cost me $48. It was on back order anyway. The one thing I did like about it was the adjustable strength dial. I like strong coffee and the other pots I had before that one made weak coffee unless you put in a half pound of coffee. I used my great aunts GE for 8 years and she had had it for 15 so we got the moneys worth for that one. Still searching for a new one with adjustable strength and using the old drip one in the mean time.
DeLonghi perculator February 14, 2008 Jon Trovati
Great as long as it works, problem is ive owned two now the first one lasted 2 months the second one two times. The pump isn't designed to last long in other words it won't pump the water up through the stem to the grounds, thus producing a brewed cup of coffee. Too bad as i think the best cup comes from a perculator I've had several types, as I've heard also this brand is no longer being produced, so buy smart, look for a good company with a long warranty ..
Lid Broke February 3, 2008 B. Cioni (Northern Virginia, USA)
I had this percolator for about 1.5 years before I experienced the same issues with the lid as other reviewers here. It made great coffee, the unit is attractive and convenient. The lid was always difficult to remove and from all that tugging, the clear plastic piece on the top eventually broke. There are 2 little plastic pieces that hold it on to the metal lid. One gave way about a year or so after using the product, but I was still able to use the machine. We used our product everyday. Then a few months later, the other plastic piece broke and now there is nothing to secure the plastic top to the lid base. I could not find a replacement online. If it wasn't for the lid, I would have given the product 5 stars. I am now in search for a new percolator. I considered giving this one another try since it did last for a year and half with no issues, but given the other reviewers postings, I don't think I'll chance it now, especially at $150.
Nice looking but the Lid is the Worst January 29, 2008 Gregory (Fort Lauderdale, FL USA)
This product is a nice looking machine however, the lid is a beast. The design of the small ball handle is not meant for such a tight lid. It takes skill and great strength to remove it from the chamber. Who woulda thunk? After less than a year of use, the tugging took its toll on the stubborn cover and the plastic top which allows optimal viewing gave up and called it quits. There are two small prongs on the plastic part of the lid that secures it to the metal rim which over this short time frame turned into useless nubs. Now the plastic piece pops off with ease and the cover does not seal to its metal frame properly. Because of this, a mess is made during the brewing cycle. Coffee seeps out the lid where plastic meets metal and drips down the sides of the chamber and onto the counter top. Good for the quicker picker upper, but not for me. The water level gage beneath the handle has been known to leak as well. Be sure to press this bugger downward into place periodically to prevent an unwanted flood. Other than the tough little lid gone weak, the coffee brews strong. Unfortunately this will soon be a decorative item only I'm afraid. Bummer, I had high hopes for this one.
Great tasting coffee but leaked right away! March 4, 2007 ITeach (NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This percolator makes great coffee but it leaked the first day I used it. I kept it anyway because it made such great coffee but I have had it a year now and the leaking has only gotten worse. If the lid was not made of plastic for viewing it would not have this problem. Am going to try contacting company, like another reviewer said they did, but will not buy this again.
