Customer Reviews Happiness at Last! April 4, 2007 Mark E. Kerr (Chattanooga, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having installed three Nakamichis (skip-prone), one Clarion (a high pitched squeal from the speakers when playing a CD), and a Kenwood (inadequate sound shaping capability). I settled on the Pioneer and became satisfied at last. This is my second Pioneer brand in-dash reciever. My first performed flawlessly until I gave it to my stepson. This unit does so many things and does them so well. The multi-band EQ is great, as well the Auto-EQ feature and all the signal processing gizmos that custom tune the unit to your vehicle's interior. This thing has a lot of features, most of which I have learned to use. So far, it has been reliable, and it sounds great. The Time Alignment feature gives me the most evenly distributed, non-directional sound field I have experienced in an automobile. My complaints include a display that washes out in sunlight (common among all brands), confusing EQ functionality, and poor ergonomics. Too bad aftermarket car sound manufacturers do not put the premium on ergonomics the the OEMs do. For example, the button for the EQ curve select is right beside the on/off/volume where it is easily accidentally hit and changed to another curve, but you have to go through a couple of layers of menu to find the Pause function. Why? I set the EQ curve once and leave it alone, but I need to access Pause every day. I'm a little older than the typical car stereo customer. I go for sound quality and try to avoid the flash and gimmicks that may appeal to some 18-year-old kid on the sales floor, thus my Nakamichi purchases. I'm an engineer. I can deal with the complexity and somewhat non-intuitive nature of this unit's interface but would really prefer not to have to. My wife has difficulty dealing with it, though.
Pioneer is the BEST! February 9, 2006 Doombious (oHIo)
I love this...So easy to use. Had an Alpine 9855 for 3 days -piece of crap... hard to work and horrible sound beside being defective. Went back to my trusty favorite Pioneer. So many features. I bought the last one in the store -their display and the manual was lost. I'm not an expert at these things and it was a piece of cake. User friendly and nice looking. Pioneer has excellent sound quality. Love it! Pioneer Forever! UPDATE: Althought I loved this unit, shortly after my original review it was plagued with opening issues and sometimes when it did open the cd wouldn't come out all the way but at least there was just enough I could grab onto with my nail to get it out. After getting it repaired twice under the warranty, I finally ditched the unit for a newer Pioneer.
